Dance without Borders School Residency
The company did an artistic residency in a state school during 2013-2014 funded by Prince Claus Fund.
Through this residency, many people that had never seen much dance or experienced it had the chance to have contact with it and with the whole creative process involved in making a dance performance, and to appreciate the final result. Also all the young people involved in the project learnt a lot about their bodies and how they could explore and expand their own physicality and capacity to express themselves through the body. Participants also developed an understanding and tolerance to each other’s differences and came to realize that we are all different no matter how but with the same rights to express ourselves and to dance.
For all the professionals involved in it was incredible to see how all pupils changed during the whole project and how they developed their attention and capacity to listen.
The subsidy allowed the opportunity to have the doors of a public school in São Paulo opened for the residency of a dance company with mixed abilities members. Thus, all the school community, students, parents, teachers and employees, could see the routine of rehearsals and the creation of a dance company performance. The company gave weekly workshops for the children from eight to twelve years old, while sharing the process of creating the Haze Glimpsed performance with the students and employees of the school.
“A companhia paulista Dança sem Fronterias, em trabalho de um ano e meio, inseriu-se no cotidiano da escola pública Alfredo Paulino, através de suas ações pedagógicas- aulas e encontros com alunos, professores e convidados- mas sobretudo através de seu trabalho de criação, por todos presenciado através de ensaios e produção de uma obra inédita- Olhar de Neblina, apresentada, em dezembro de 2014, para toda a escola.
Como um espetáculo de “dança para todos”, Olhar de Neblina parte de uma proposta estética que, abordando diferenças, a elas não faz concessões, na busca de uma arte profissional para a cena contemporânea. Para tanto, seus múltiplos artistas não dançam somente sobre seus desafios mas atuam sobre temas que poeticamente atravessam desafios de todos nós.
Toda esta atividade, que incluiu até mesmo a apresentação dos alunos em um teatro municipal da cidade de São Paulo (dezembro/2013, Sala Paissandú, Galeria Olido), transformou a residência em um fundamental momento de arte e estética dentro da escola. Aos seus espaços de inquietações, construiu diferenças para todos, rompendo fronteiras.”
