Dance without Borders and its Interlocutions with the city

Paths and perceptions about the diversity of the city and its inhabitants

2018- This project was awarded by the 23rd Edition of the Dance Promotion Program of Fomento à Dança for the city of São Paulo.

This program “Fomento à Dança” has been promoting the creation and circulation of dance performance, meetings, workshops, residencies, exhibitions, laboratories, lectures and other actions focused on socio-cultural reflection and inclusion, with the participation of directors, choreographers, dancers, researchers and thinkers of today. The “Fomento à Dança” has contributed to the production and dissemination of dance in the city of São Paulo.

Since its beginning, the company has been traveling around the capital and in the interior with dance performance, attracting more and more diverse audiences, including people from different backgrounds, with the most varied ages and abilities including people with and without disabilities.

The companion researches the paths and perceptions about the diversity of the city and its inhabitants, developing a methodology and aesthetics of its own way to create performance. In recent years, the company has held numerous workshops and creative laboratories, at the same time as it has initiated new partnerships and consolidated the existing ones. The company’s experience demonstrates the need to create a dance performance to incorporate the diversity of the cast and to welcome the diversity of the audience both adult and children.

The actions envisaged in this project, while strengthening the research and development of the company´s singular and specific artistic language, will  promote contemporary dance as a cultural good accessible to all, thus strengthening diversity and  stretching  the artistic and social horizons beyond the labels.
