Ciranda de Retina e Cristalino
Documentary and Performance created during pandemic times 2020 and 2021, and was part of the Poetics of Diversity project, contemplated by the 27th edition of Fomento à Dança for the city of São Paulo.
The performance was created during the pandemic in 2020 and 2021, the company continued to work in isolation, the dancers and the choreographer met weekly to research, create educational actions and this new show that in turn subtly reflects a little of these times.
The company is performing Ciranda de Retina e Cristalino since 2022 at many theatres at the capital São Paulo and other cities.
Ciranda de Retina e Cristalino brings, among others, the characters;
* Retina – woman with vision emperaiment who dances behind her window;
* Cristalino – young man with low vision who balances himself and makes adventures with his green cane and his wheel illuminating his space;
* Cecilia – young woman who dances with her eye twirling with large eyelashes;
* Iris and Cornelia – dancers with two faces dance and reflect their images in a large mirror.
All the performers at the beginning are isolated in their circles marked by chalk drawings on the floor and the light. They are connected by their body narratives and sometimes they are united in a single choreography of several distant bodies, so that at the end of the show, even at a distance, they are connected by large rubber bands in a great ciranda of memory.
In this performance, as in all the Dança sem Fronteiras´ works, improvisation plays a fundamental role in the creation of the dramaturgy and in the preparation of the performers. From the improvisation comes the dance with its symbolism. The choreographic compositions are carefully designed with the dancers’ bodies and their unique features, along with the lighting. Dance is never just about steps, nor neutral, but rich in meaning. During the performance, the lighting becomes an imprompte link with the dancers, drawing limits and dialoguing with their movements. The entire performance was also composed in a partnership with the music composer, the sound, the melody, the silence and the unique movements are connected.
The circle, the wheel that turns-turns and return turning in the memory, became poetry, movement and song. As the lyrics of the music written by Fernanda Amaral and Wagner Dias say, in the end of the performance
The Documentary Performance Ciranda de Retina e Cristalino was created to show the process of the company Dança sem Fronteiras to work for 15 months most of the time at a distance. The film and the performance presents the themes of the companies´s creation research, as well as the experiences of the companie’s dancers and their daily processes of changes and adaptations in these times of social isolation and meetings through screens. The company met weekly to research, create educational actions and the new show Ciranda de Retina e Cristalino, which through a poetic dramaturgy using everyday objects creates images and movements that subtly reflect on the change of looks.
